Make your own flavored coffee creamers

Make your own flavored coffee creamersDo you still drink coffee with commercial flavored creamer?

This is the ingredient list from the most popular store brand of flavored cream: PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN AND/OR COTTONSEED OIL, SODIUM CASEINATE, DIPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, DISODIUM PHOSPHATE, MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, CELLULOSE GEL, CELLULOSE GUM, COLOR ADDED, CARRAGEENAN.

Flavored creamers contain some scary ingredients indeed!! Also notable, the ingredient list above does not even contain “cream”.  I set out to make a non-toxic, real, and organic, flavored coffee creamer. Fortunately it’s really simple to  make your own flavored creamers and you can avoid consuming these questionable ingredients.  And here are some of the recipes that I have come up with to make your morning cup of joe a little jazzed up and special.

Those artificial sweeteners can be UBER sweet and totally out of my realm of consumption. But, I personally don’t like my coffee sweet.  Which points out another advantage of making your own flavored creamers- you control the sweetness level. Add the sugar amounts in the recipes to suit your tastes.

So play around with these recipes!! Add in more or less sweetener and whichever type you enjoy:  molasses, cane sugar, coconut sugar, maple syrup, honey, stevia, xylitol, raw sugar. And use the type of cream  you prefer until you get that perfect concoction to create your PERFECT cup of coffee.

Also, in these recipes, what I mean by “cream” is whatever you typically use in your coffee. For example, instead of buying prepackaged flavored coffee creamers, you can use these recipes to make your own flavored cream out of: organic coconut milk, coconut creamer, whole milk, half and half, almond milk, hemp milk, goat milk etc.. So “cream” in the recipe means whatever lightener you plan to use in your coffee.

Just mix these up the night before in a small container, let flavors meld together, and give the jar a good shake the next morning before pouring into your coffee. Bottoms up!

***SWEET TREAT ALERT! You can also use these recipes with heavy cream to make flavored whipped creams to top of your coffee, hot cacao, desserts etc.***

French vanilla:

  • 4 cups cream
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar or turbinado sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 2 Tbsp. real vanilla extract
  • *A pinch of real vanilla bean

Combine sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla extract in a sauce pan over low heat, stirring occasionally until sugar is melted. Don’t overcook or let get too bubbly or it will start to solidify and you won’t be able to use it in your creamer.

Pour cream into container and add in your sugar mixture. Shake it up and store in fridge.
